Joel M. Evans, M.D.
Joel M. Evans, M.D., a board certified OB/GYN and international lecturer, is the Founder and Director of The Center for Functional Medicine, where he practices integrative functional gynecology.
Dr. Evans was honored to speak at the United Nations in March 2013 on the topic of Prenatal Origins of Violence, and he now serves as UN Representative and Chief Medical Advisor for OMAEP – World Organization of Prenatal Education Associations.
In addition, he lends his expertise and leadership as:
- A member of the senior faculty of two of the most recognized and prestigious teaching institutions in integrative medicine: The Center for Mind/Body Medicine and the Institute for Functional Medicine.
- Medical Director of the Association for Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health.
- Former Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine from 2002 to 2014.
- A Founding Diplomat of the American Board of Holistic Medicine and is recognized as the first physician in Connecticut to be Board Certified in both Holistic Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology.
- A former Director of two nationally known organizations focused on pregnancy, Childbirth Connection and the Association for Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health.
- Author of The Whole Pregnancy Handbook (Gotham, 2005), a holistic approach to pregnancy, which received widespread critical acclaim and media attention.
He has a special interest in Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer, and as a National Speaker for both Phenogen Sciences and Myriad Genetics, brings the latest information on cancer risk assessment and prevention to his patients.
Having pursued studies in spirituality, metaphysics, and personal transformation for many years, Dr. Evans has recently created a core curriculum designed to share ancient spiritual wisdom with others in order to help bring health and happiness into their lives.

Monique Class, APRN-BC, a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner and international lecturer, is the Co-Founder of The Center for Functional Medicine, where she practices integrative functional gynecology, and functional medicine.
Monique Class lectures nationally and internationally on women's health, mind-body medicine, and coaching. Along with her advanced degrees in nursing, she holds certifications from The Institute for Functional Medicine, The Center for Mind/Body Medicine, The Psychosynthesis Institute, and dual board certifications in coaching from AHNCC and NBC-HWC. .

Sheldon Lewis, Stress-Management Skills Educator
Sheldon Lewis is a Meditation Teacher and Mind-Body-Spirit coach at the Center for Women’s Health, and in private practice in New York City. He co-leads our regular Meditation Group with Monique Class and Dr. Joel Evans and offers individual spiritual counseling sessions. He partnered with Dr. Evans to create Wisdom of the Heart workshops and has led Mind-Body-Spirit groups, having completed the Center for Mind-Body Medicine’s Advanced Training Program. He also leads weekly meditations and the Change Your Brain with Meditation workshop at JCC-Manhattan. A pioneering journalist in the field of Integrative and Mind-Body Health, he was Editor of Advances in Mind-Body Medicine and co-authored the books Stress-Proofing Your Child and The Human Side of Cancer as well as Integrative Medicine in America for the Bravewell Collaborative. Sheldon’s insight and experience as a longtime meditator and teacher inspire others to initiate and deepen their spiritual practice and uplift their lives.
